President's Message

Hello Members!

And our most gracious of thanks go to Evelyn Silvers for allowing our Chapter to use her house for our recent garage sale! Thanks to Evelyn as well as to all who volunteered and donated, we earned $569 that day! We're off to a great start so, I would again invite all members to stay after the next meeting for a 10-15 minute Fundraising Committee meeting to discuss our next adventure - the Gas Card Raffle. Our goal will be to get it kicked-off to sell tickets at ABWA Day on September 21st.

The Board has been just as busy working on our Chapter's Organizational Chart for 2008-2009. This is being done to adhere more closely to National's mandate that "we operate more like a business."

Each of the Committee Chairs will now directly report to one of the Board Members in order to speed communication. So, please refer to the chart provided in the newsletter and we'll update it as needed.

Also, the Board approved a Proposed Budget for August 2008 through July 2009 for the members to review and vote on at the next meeting. You may notice higher Member Education expenses than in the past. This is a direct result of the Spring Conference Report and changes announced by ABWA, National. As a Chapter, we are facing a rather serious decision as to whether to retain our Charter with ABWA, National. If we decide to retain our Charter, we will need to follow "Best Practices" as they have outlined. The alternative is to allow our Charter to be revoked, in which case, we would have more local control but, without our ABWA Charter.

As one of your newest members, I can only speak for myself when I say that one issue that most attracted me to the Sonoma County Charter Chapter was the fact that you have a Nationwide organization as well as a Bay Area affiliation of Chapters (Council). This definitely gives the Chapter a resource base of staff and materials to draw from as well as networking opportunities throughout the Bay Area. So, I hope you will all consider carefully and attend our September 10th meeting to vote on our budget as well as the secondary issue of whether to retain our Charter. Please review the budget printed in this newsletter and come prepared with any questions.

I'd again like to remind everyone to invite friends, neighbors, co-workers, and relatives to our meetings. If we decide to retain our Charter, we'll need our membership to grow - we have a lot to offer so, make those invitations! And don't forget - "the more, the merrier!"

Sincerely,
Lynn Wagner
President 2008-2009
